We shot this editorial in both studio and on the streets of Chinatown, NYC. There were a lot of makeup changes. The makeup references were from Chinese Opera. The challenge for me was to deliver a combination of subtle and theatrical makeup looks, but in a relevant, modern way. I wanted our models to still look like themselves with an added 'cool chic' factor.

As you can probably tell, this was definitely a fun shoot to work on. Sophia, the fashion editor showed me some work of pop artist Barry Reigate (who's art is graced across these images). I was immediately drawn to the spectrum of colors and the playfulness, which seems to be a staple of his creativity. I wanted to incorporate these elements into the makeup. I ended up using blue glitter in a bold shape and paired it with saturated hues of purple. Our model had the perfect facial structure to pull this look off. I love how the final images are fun and playful yet still chic.

This was all about keeping our model Ming Xi's look fresh and natural. She has gorgeous skin to begin with. Although you cannot see it due to the b&w images, I did use reflective pigment on her eyes in a greenish-gold tone. It has a holographic effect and was quite beautiful in natural daylight. We shot this on the top of the W hotel in lower Manhattan.

The influence for this shoot was from the movie Eastern Promises. I did the body tats on the male model. We shot this in London. It was pretty much a 24 hours day for me.

For this cover feature, the magazine asked me if I would be interested in creating a beauty/fashion story for them. They wanted something graphic but still beautiful. I came up with the idea to pay homage to some of my favorite artists who've always inspired me. So I created a look each for Picasso, Lichtenstein, Jonathan Yeo, Basquiat and what is on the cover Keith Haring. I wanted to capture the essence of each artist's work through the use of makeup. We shot this during the course of 3 days since the looks were quite time consuming to create.

This was such a cool project. For this fashion editorial, I painted the Argentinian Soccer Jersey on model Eniko (left). And on the right, I painted a portrait of model Dree Hemingway's face on Simon Nessman's shoulder. This was shot on location in Long Island, NY. To get the looks, I used an array of alcohol and water-based products.
